RETROFIT HEATER CONTROL VALVE

Use with 5/8" (16mm approx) heater hose. Requires heater FLEX control cable with solid steel wire inside the flex tube to operate (not supplied with this product).

DIMENSIONS: Valve Mounting Bracket (a) 3 1/2"w X 3 1/2"h bracket mounting surface (rear), (b) 3 1/2"w x 1 3/4"h Valve mounting surface (front side) (c) 2" inside depth cavity between front and rear surface to place the Valve. Valve is 1 3/4" wide and 5" long (length is between pipe ends).

THIS HEATER CONTROL VALVE COMES IN THESE TWO OPTIONS:

VALVE MODEL A FLOWS FROM RIGHT TO LEFT WITH CABLE CLAMP LOCATED ON RIGHT When installed on the Firewall or Inner Fender with cable clamp bracket in rear.

VALVE MODEL B FLOWS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT WITH CABLE CLAMP ALSO LOCATED ON RIGHT:

PLEASE NOTE AN ARROW IS MOLDED ON THE VALVE BODY DEPICTING THE FLOW DIRECTION ON EACH VALVE A & VALVE B

MOUNTING BRACKET FEATURES:

The MOUNTING BRACKET has 4 holes that match those on the Valve body to mount it either of two ways:  (1) inside the bracket cavity or (2) place it on the outside (front) mounting surface cantilevered to be 1 3/4" further away from the firewall or inner fender to make extra room for the cable and hoses if necessary.  The following examples show these configurations:

MOUNTING CONFIGURATIONS (Using Valve Model -B as an Example):

CONFIGURATION 1: 1/2" clearance between the wall and the Valve operating cable when the Valve is mounted normally inside the Bracket. Our Installation Kit (sold separately) is shown installed on the right side.

CONFIGURATION 2: This configuration shows valve cantilevered on the front (outside of the valve mounting surface) placing the valve forward by adding 1 3/4" more space from the firewall or fenderwell.  Our Installation Kit (sold separately) is shown installed on the right side.

VALVE INSTALLATION STEPS RECOMMENDED

STEP 1: PLAN YOUR CONFIGURATION FIRST WITH A MOCK UP: Lay out a MOCKUP of your hoses and cable into your Configuration checking all measurements. You may have to trim the Operating cable flex winding and cut some of the cable inside wire back to avoid unnecessary bends.

STEP 2: SETUP YOUR HEATER HOSE CONFIGURATION:  We recommend mounting the Heater Control Valve to the RIGHT of your Old Valve and just above the heater core inlet pipe going through the firewall. Use your present heater hose if it will reach attached to the core. If this is NOT long enough, then purchase our INSTALLATION KIT along with your VALVE.

HOSE SET UP FOR THE TWO VALVE MODELS

VALVE MODEL A  We recommend a molded 90 Degree 5/8" heater hose section to be installed on the Output Side.  Note direction of ---->(Arrow pointing right) on the HEATER CONTROL VALVE Body [right side of VALVE A] as you face the Firewall/Inner Fender.

VALVE MODEL B  We recommend molded 90 Degree 5/8" heater hose section to be installed on the Output Side.  Note direction of <---- (Arrow pointing right) on the HEATER CONTROL VALVE Body [left side of VALVE A] as you face the Firewall/Inner Fender.

IF YOU DID NOT PURCHASE OUR INSTALLATION ACCESSORY KIT IDENTIFIED BELOW AND CANNOT FIND ITEMS YOU NEED AT YOUR PARTS STORE, eMAIL US FOR HELP.

STEP 3: INSTALL MOUNTING BRACKET ON THE FIREWALL OR FENDERWELL

We suggest you tape the Bracket onto the Surface with duct tape. Mark 4 holes for drilling.  Then Drill 3/32" OR 1/8" holes. Install the Four #10 x 1/2" stainless pan head screws provided.  Use lock washers on these screws if you have a lot of vibration.

STEP 4: INSTALL THE VALVE ONTO THE MOUNTING BRACKET (VALVE MOUNTING SURFACE)

The Valve Mounting surface of the Bracket has 4 holes matching the screw holes and dowel ends molded into 2 of the 4 positions on the Valve. The dowel ends are 1/8" in diameter diagonally positioned and opposite of the two drilled mounting holes on the surface of the valve body. These dowels help set the Valve Body in position squarely.

FIRST we suggest Installing the heater hose on the right side (the cable clamp bracket side) and cinch your hose clamp to the valve on this right side; this is necessary due to clearance between the valve pipe and the mounting bracket.  This will take care of one of steps 6 or 7 below depending on the valve model you purchase.  Put the Valve inside the Mounting Bracket; slip to the right about 1" , tighten the hose clamp, then slip the Valve back to mate the dowels molded on the Valve with the holes on the mounting surface.

.

Secure the Valve to the mounting bracket using 2 hex head screws provided.

Don't overtighten these screws, screw them in until they bottom

DON'T USE ANY LONGER THAN 1/2" SCREW TO SECURE THE VALVE THROUGH THE PREMOLDED HOLES. LONGER SCREWS COULD DIG IN THE PLASTIC AND WOULD STRIKE THE INTERNAL VALVE BALL.

Cable Clamp bracket and set screw is to the rear and positioned on the right of the valve.

STEP 5: DOUBLE CHECK THE VALVE OPERATION

Make sure valve is open when your Control Cable is pulled OPEN and CLOSED when Cable is pushed in.

STEP 6: INSTALL HEATER HOSE COMING FROM THE ENGINE ON THE VALVE INPUT SIDE

(SEE FLOW DIRECTION ARROW) Daub some olive oil or light grease on the pipe ends. Then insert hose.

Use your favorite hose clamps.

STEP 7: INSTALL HEATER HOSE CONNECTED TO THE HEATER CORE ON THE VALVE OUTPUT SIDE   Follow the flow direction of the arrow.

INSTALLATION ACCESSORY KIT OPTION IS AVAILABLE WITH PURCHASE OF THE VALVE  (OR also : SOLD SEPARATELY) AND HAS THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:

ITEM 1. 90 Degree MOLDED HEATER 5/8" HOSE ELBOW (5" length) to be installed on the HEATER CONTROL VALVE output side running to the heater core.

ITEM 2. 5/8" Coupler (3" long) mates the hose coming from the heater core to the ELBOW (item 1). Hose elbow and your heater hose go in 1 1/2" each mated on the Coupler.

Note HEATER HOSES WITH DIFFERENT DIMENSIONS SUCH AS 3/4" CAN BE ACCOMODATED WITH OUR INSTALLATION KTI THAT CONTAINS A 5/8" TO 3/4" CONNECTOR OR WE HAVE AN INSTALLATION KIT WITH A  5/8" TO 1/2" CONNECTOR TO MATCH YOUR 1/2" INLET HOSE.

THE COMPLETED INSTALLATION LOOKS LIKE THIS ONE IN A  1955 FORD F-100 -engine 302 v8 -(Valve Model A installed).

DSCF1270.JPG

The installation above shows Valve Model A with heater hose (steel braided) coming from the engine attached to the Valve inlet on the right side. The outlet of the Valve on the left side is installed with the 90 degree molded elbow from our installation kit.  The elbow is mated through an ABS plastic coupler to the old hose heading into the heater core directly below the Valve.  The heater core outlet hose (also steel braided) is just to the left of the heater fan motor and is heading back to the water pump.
